  • The RN First Assistant (RNFA) functions as a surgical first assistant under surgeon supervision and serves as a Registered Nurse based on departmental needs.

  • Supports mission, values, and strategic initiatives, demonstrating commitment to quality patient and staff service.

  • Assists with procedural setup, patient preparation, and surgical techniques including tissue closure and hemostasis.

  • Maintains a safe peri-operative environment, observes aseptic techniques, and participates in patient transport and room turnover.

  • Circulates cases as needed and acts as an educator and resource to patients and colleagues.

  • Qualifications include graduation from a surgical first assistant program, valid RN license, CNOR certification, BLS, with BSN preferred and CRNFA certification optional.
