REF:#94f1f1fc2b94db9d Primarily responsible for Emergency Department (ED) patient care. Triages, treats and stabilizes patients in an emergency medical condition. Performs duties without direct supervision. Requires flexibility to provide care in the emergency department and as a pre-hospital provider as needed. Serves as patient advocate and teacher to improve outcomes. Provides post procedure instruction and treatment. Addresses patient and family concerns.

19-07 RN Position

Primarily responsible for Emergency Department (ED) patient care. Triages, treats and stabilizes patients in an emergency medical condition. Performs duties without direct supervision. Requires flexibility to provide care in the emergency department and as a pre-hospital provider as needed. Serves as patient advocate and teacher to improve outcomes. Provides post procedure instruction and treatment. Addresses patient and family concerns. Functions in an out-of-hospital environment to include staff function in an ALS ambulance as primary or secondary care provider in an as needed basis. May be required to cover call on occasion for emergency or ambulance.

Experience and Education:

Minimum:

Associates Degree of Science of Nursing.
ACLS certified; BCLS certified; PALS or equivalent; and TNCC or approved equivalent certifications within 9 months of hire.
Registered Nurse, licensed in Missouri

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree of Science of Nursing
Minimum two years of experience in Critical Care/emergency care environment is preferred.
Must be able to respond and perform duties in stressful environment and react/respond immediately to emergency.
Must be able to perform duties with limited or no supervision. No physical lifting limitations

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

Demonstrated passion for patient centered care

Performs all basic nursing skills
Proficient in suture and drain removal, placement and removal of splints, removal of casts
Calculates drug dosages with appropriate administration of
Proficient in blood product administration
Able to work in stressful environment and respond/react immediately to emergency situation. Proficient in medical and trauma resuscitation as a team member or team leader
Current on utilization and maintenance of peripheral and central venous catheters, including Subclavian, Portacath and PICC
Completes history and physical on patients to determine priority of care and documentation of ongoing treatment. Provides documentation consistent with patient presentation.
Current on medical and trauma trends/care, including resuscitation
Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation from many perspectives, consider various alternatives and choose appropriate action
Combines ethical judgment with technical skills within policy and legal guidelines of the institution
Demonstrates effective judgment in the selection and utilization of various data sources to identify problems in the delivery of care
Schedules and triages patients appropriately; patient is informed of the status of their emergency department visit
Appropriate knowledge and application of growth and development as relates to age group to which services are provided. Could include newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
Provides patient education specific to the patient’s need, age and level of understanding
Assesses patient’s physical and emotional needs, providing appropriate care and documentation
Maintains supplies and equipment; documents cleaning and maintenance
Follows EMTALA regulations for patient screening requirements and transfer
Proficient in ACLS, to include dysrhythmia. interpretation, external pacing and defibrillation
Maintains current certification and proficient in PALS or equivalent
Functions as the team leader or team member in medical or trauma resuscitations
Proficient in invasive skills, including IV, IM, NG, OG and foley
Proficient in airway maintenance and oxygen delivery devices
Calculates drug dosages and administers medications appropriately
Collection of specimens: ABG, venous blood, stool, urine, sputum or wound
Suture removal, wound cleansing and debridement
Thirty minutes of two person CPR
Carries a minimum of 50% of patient load/equipment to safely move patient
Proficient at TNCC skills, including spinal immobilization, splinting and triage
Demonstrates effective judgment in the selection and utilization of various data sources to identify problems in the delivery of care
Proficient in use of required equipment: cardiac monitors, IV pumps and cast cut-off saw
Works carefully and precisely without creating unnecessary errors
Pays close attention to details
Completes necessary documents according to Hospital and departmental policy
Displays sensitivity to needs of customers. Supplies customers with emotional as well as technical clinical support
Displays polite behavior to customers
Speaks in a positive, professional manner about customers and the hospital
