Position Summary

The Clinical Services Supervisor Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing and advancing clinical pharmacy services within the organization. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based pharmaceutical care, drives clinical initiatives, and promotes optimal patient outcomes. The supervisor will lead and mentor clinical pharmacy staff, manage pharmacy programs, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate pharmacy services into patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Leadership & Oversight:

o Develop, implement, and oversee clinical pharmacy services, including medication therapy management (MTM), pharmacokinetic monitoring, antimicrobial stewardship, transitions of care, and chronic disease management programs.

o Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes to ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use.

o Serve as a clinical resource for pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other departments.

2. Program Development & Quality Improvement:

o Design and manage clinical protocols, guidelines, and pathways to optimize medication management.

o Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to develop interdisciplinary treatment plans.

o Identify opportunities for clinical program expansion and improvement.

o Lead quality improvement projects to enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency.

3. Personnel Management:

o Supervise and mentor clinical pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and students.

o Develop and monitor staff competencies through training, education, and performance evaluations.

o Foster a culture of professional growth, collaboration, and clinical excellence within the team.

4. Regulatory Compliance & Policy Development:

o Ensure clinical pharmacy services comply with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., TJC, CMS, State Board of Pharmacy).

o Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to clinical pharmacy programs and medication safety.

5. Collaboration & Education:

o Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on medication-related initiatives, safety, and clinical projects.

o Provide education and training to pharmacy staff, healthcare providers, and patients on clinical topics, new therapies, and guidelines.

o Participate in committees such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T), Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Quality Improvement teams.

6. Data Analysis & Reporting:

o Monitor clinical pharmacy metrics, including interventions, outcomes, cost savings, and quality indicators.

o Report on clinical service achievements, challenges, and opportunities to leadership.

o Use data to support formulary management decisions and optimize therapeutic outcomes.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) with equivalent experience.

Licensure: Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in North Carolina.

Experience:

o Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical pharmacy experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting.

o Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Certifications: Board Certification (e.g., BCPS, BCACP, BCCCP, or other relevant credentials) strongly preferred.

Ability to engage in direct patient care and interact with multidisciplinary teams.

Periodic participation in meetings, educational sessions, and committee work.

Clinical pharmacy interventions and documented outcomes.

Reduction in medication errors, adverse drug events (ADEs), and hospital readmissions.

Achievement of cost savings through optimized medication use.

Staff competency and development.

Compliance with regulatory standards and clinical quality metrics.
