Community Howard in Kokomo, IN is hiring for a full time PET/CT Technologist.
Exceptional Skills and Qualifications
• Education: 2 year / Associate Degree In Nuclear Medicine (Required); 4 year / Bachelor’s Degree In Nuclear Medicine (Preferred)
• One of the following licenses is required: (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technology (N)(ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB))
• If hired without certification, must obtain one of the following within one year of hire: Certified Computed Tomography (CT) (ARRT) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB) (CT))
• Patient Care: Provide optimal patient care remaining sensitive to the needs of patients through patient assessment and monitoring. Educate and instruct patient and family about the procedure and radiation safety to be performed using appropriate terms. Act as a patient advocate and involve parents, guardian, family member or caregiver when appropriate. Provide health care services with consideration for a diverse patient population and provides quality care to patients of all age groups, as well as physical and mental abilities.
• Exam preparation: Receive, relay and document any and all verbal, written and electronic orders in the patient’s medical record. Corroborate the patient’s clinical history with procedure and ensuring information is complete, accurate, documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. Ensure that all exam information is correct, complete, and recorded, including supplies; as well as recording any deviation from normal procedure. Assess factors that may affect the procedure, such as medications, patient history, patient preparation or artifact-producing objects. Obtains and reviews relevant previous procedures and information from all available resources and the release of information as needed. Prep patients for procedures and verifying informed consent when applicable.
• Exam performance: Perform each exam using proper technical and positioning factors in accordance to the protocol manual including aspects of intravenous access and administration of pharmaceuticals and/or contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Evaluate images for proper positioning, technical quality and ensuring proper identification is recorded, as well as and determine traditional images will improve the procedure or treatment outcome. Verify archival storage of data by tracking exam to completeness in both EMR and PACS.
• Equipment: Demonstrate proper use and knowledge of all department equipment, positioning devices, patient care items and patient monitoring devices. Confirms that equipment performance, maintenance and operation comply with the manufacturer’s specifications, as well as perform required quality assurance activities. Possess knowledge and ability to verbally discuss emergency shutdown process. Ensure an efficient room turn-around while maintaining a clean and well-stocked room.
• Student supervision: Educate and monitor students to ensure they compliance with standards, policies and procedures as well a sensuring that exams are performed is within the student’s capabilities.
• Safety: Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care and be able to identify and respond to emergency situations. This includes principles of radiation safety and ALARA as well as knowledge of MR safety.
