IU Health Methodist’s Cardiovascular Surgical A2North is a 28-bed, fast-paced, high acuity, mixed model unit that includes Progressive Care patients. This unit’s focus is the treatment of cardiovascular patients through surgical and medical management of diagnoses. Diagnoses include cardiac arrhythmias, circulatory disorders, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), cardiac valve repairs/replacement, and post heart catheterization procedural care.

Cardiovascular Surgical is the only Progressive Care unit at Methodist Hospital with registered nurses who are specially trained in the care of Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD). With the required specialized care of these patients, the diagnoses can be varied.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

Time management in a fast-paced environment
Post operative surgical care skills
Managing care of LVADs
EKG interpretation
Arrhythmia management
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

First ever Tulip award winner for AHC on this unit
CAUTI and CLABSI free for all of 2023 (over 500 days in total!)
Several Daisy Award Nominees in 2023
Implemented new Fall Toolkit which resulted in a major reduction in fall harm events
Multiple RNs with Certifications and counting!

Qualifications

Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
